“Never give up on what you really want to do. The person with big dreams is more powerful than the one with all the facts.” – Albert Einstein
Simply defined, evolution means "any process of formation or growth". Professionally, I have been working in the IT field for over 16 years serving in roles from desktop support technician to system administrator to application analyst to instructor to my current role of IT Support Supervisor. No matter the role, I have strived to help people solve technical problems and make the most of essential and emerging technology. I love what I do and do what I love. Simple as that.
So how does evolution fit into my love of technology. The technology landscape is always changing. Evolving. Just as technology is evolving, as an IT professional I needed to do the same. In order to have a long, viable career in the IT field, you must be willing to continuously learn. Learning is evolution. My evolution is towards cybersecurity.
I have always had an interests in the security of technology since my early days in the IT field but never focused on pursuing that interest. After earning my bachelors' degree, a few certifications and starting my current job, I decided that it was as good of a time as any to jumpstart my career evolution into the cybersecurity field.
Does this mean that I change my passion to help people take full advantage of everything that technology has to offer? No. What this evolution means is that I now can explore new ways to expand my passion to help people not only get the most from technology but also do so in a safe and secure manner.
Let the evolution begin.
